The Moffat Collection draws from the mining and railroading history of Boulder County. What was commonly know as the "iron horse" first passed through the Continental Divide via the Moffat Tunnel in February 1928, easing the trip to the other side of the divide. Prior to the tunnel drifted snow, sub-freezing temperatures, and high altitude made travel to the western slope over Rollins Pass challenging. Today adventurers u the south fork of Middle Boulder Creek see the wooden remains of the old train route scattered high on the ridge above. The Moffat Collection evokes the gritty, arduous history of the rails and the earth products that were transported along them.
